Product Description

Due to generally bad feedback from our customers regarding these synthetic reeds, we have decided to discontinue selling them. They do not to perform as well as cane reeds and the consistency from reed to reed is poor (which is particularly frustrating as they are so expensive!)

The Legere Synthetic Bassoon Reed (Medium) is the newest revolution in 'synthetic' or plastic bassoon reeds. Unlike classic cheap plastic bassoon reeds, Legere synthetic reeds are carefully built up to resemble the natural fibres of real bassoon reed cane.

Key Features

  • Never needs soaking
  • Works straight away every time
  • Lasts 3+ months of regular use
  • Great for pit work - allows quick swaps!
  • 'Medium' strength to suit most players

Ready to play in an instant

Gone are the days when you need to soak your bassoon reeds. These synthetic bassoon reeds require no moisture to play, they just need 15 seconds to 'warm-up' to full playing capability. This is ideal if you are a doubling musician or do 'pit work' (you regularly play and swap between a few instruments) as the reed is always ready to play.

Legere Synthetic Bassoon reeds are made from Polypropylene, which is approved by the FDA for direct use in contact with food, so they are completely safe to use.

OK as a standy for

OK as a standy for emergencies in weather which plays havoc with cane reeds, but no substitute for the real thing!

Good

In view of the high price I was apprehensive about taking the plunge and buying one. I once bought a plastic reed made of fibres many years ago and although it worked the sound was too buzzy, too harsh and so offensive that I just threw it away. The sound from this reed was pleasant and sweet. I could play pp reliably and found I had easy control. If you are used to medium/hard reeds you might find ff too feeble. There is a harder version though. I could play high notes up to top C without difficulty but my bassoon has a fault and I cannot play higher notes. I have not had it long enough to comment on how long it lasts. So far I say it is better than the average reed made from cane.

Legere reed

Great to have a reed that can be used without any adjustment. Only downside is the price

Astonishing

this reed is simply amazing. Beautiful tone and fabulous
responsiveness from top to bottom of my instrument. Both a revelation
and a revolution! It's far and away the best reed I have ever used, and
the only thing wrong with it is the eye-watering price. From a
value-for-money point of view it will have to last a looooong time.
Well, the makers claim it will do just that. We shall see!...

Reliable, easy ti play reed

I find this reed very easy to play and always the same - whatever the weather. It doesn't need soaking but plays straightaway. I think the tone does warm up a little with use. I found it slightly more nasal in tone than the best cane reeds, but I'm prepared to put up with that for the other benefits.
