Product Description

This book will help you keep your oboe in tip top condition, while also helping to solve some common issues. It demonstrates how to put your oboe together, how to keep it in brilliant condition, how to detect minor faults and how to do minor on the spot repairs & adjustments. Most importantly, it indicates when it would be more advisable to take your oboe to a qualified instrument repairer.

Some of the problems that this book covers are:

  • Some of the screws on my oboe keep mysteriously undoing themselves.̴Ì_ What can I do about it?
  • I can only get a sort of high C# and nothing else. What's wrong?
  • My F# is difficult to play
  • My pads keep sticking
  • I can see some of the skin covering on one of my pads has torn and is hanging down. How do I replace the pad?
  • I can't get bottom C only the C#
  • And much more...

Not useful

It’s concise yes but gives you next to nothing in the way of advices. I thought it would tell me with the adjustment screws carefully telling you how and where to adjust. It doesn’t. Also it’s written in such a way apparently intended for children because of the terminology used. There is nothing factual in it and a waste of money. I’ve been generous giving 3 stars. I’d look elsewhere. I have the one on how to care and adjust your reeds in the same series. This is more sensibly written and pictures showing you where to scrape.

Handy guide for repair

Neat little guide that takes you through essential maintenance and some emergency repairs. Keep it in my oboe case just in case!

Reeding

I'm always hesitant to touch anything on my oboe when something is not right. This is a nice guide for a player on small fixes. Thank You!!!
